      1. Autumn Update

On 12 December 2025, e-codices published its latest update, with 31 manuscripts, including a series of sermons and edificatory texts from the Abbey Library of St. Gall (including Cod. Sang. 1050 featured here) and some spectacular material from the University Library of Basel: in particular, the historiated initials from a ca. 1200 medical miscellany (D III 14) so absorb the attention that one hardly renotices the copy of the rare vernacular treatise Gegen den Eigenbesitz im Kloster by the famed theologian Henry of Langenstein (A X 137).

      2. A Masterpiece of Persian Poetry

Cologny, Fondation Martin Bodmer, Cod. Bod. 507 contains the first part of Jāmi’s Divān, entitled Fātihat al-shabāb (“The Dawn of Youth”), with over 9000 verses and paintings, such as this one (“Farhād carving the mountain under the gaze of his beloved Shirin”), related directly to the verses.

      3. Manuscript of the Manuscript Found in Saragossa found in Porrentruy

Among the historical treasures published by the Bibliothèque cantonale jurassienne is a copy of Jan Potocki, Dix journées de la vie d’Alphonse van Worden, one of the stories from his novel, Manuscrit trouvé à Saragosse. The manuscript features a watercolor depicting the mythical Venta Quemada.

      4. Mainz Etymologies

The Stadtbibliothek Schaffhausen brings to e-codices a glorious ninth-century copy of Isidore of Seville’s Etymologies produced in Mainz. The manuscript also features impressive trees of consanguinity and affinity.

      5. Cisterciensia from Aarau

The manuscripts from Aarau's published in this update include several liturgical texts from the Cistercian Abbey of Wettingen. This small Psalter (MsWett 2) reflects the Cistercian spirit for simplicity, even if the decoration reveals that it comes from the second century of the order.

      6. Happy Holidays

As e-codices winds down the year, the editorial team behind Fragmentology is putting the finishing touches on vol. 8 (2025), perhaps the largest issue ever. Meanwhile, e-codices has also published this Graduale OFM, from Fribourg/Freiburg, Couvent des Cordeliers/Franziskaner-kloster Ms. 3. The detail image shows the introit to Christmas Mass. With that, we wish you Happy Holidays and look forward to seeing you in 2026.
