    Semester examinations will take place

Dear members of the university community

Since Monday, 16 March, all attendance events at the university have been discontinued. Since then, students, teachers and the administration have had to make considerable changes. Together, however, we have been able to successfully tackle the considerable challenges involved. It is very important to me to thank you all very much for your extraordinary commitment, your flexibility, but also your understanding for the (sometimes significant) restrictions.

On Monday, 6 April, the Rectorate approved the principles for all faculties regarding examinations and performance records for the spring semester 2020. The main points of this general framework can be summarised as follows:

    1. All students can take their examinations. The usual examination period of May/June will be maintained in principle, with the modalities of many examinations being adapted, although selective exceptions cannot be completely ruled out from today's perspective.
    2. The faculties will take into account the more difficult conditions of examination preparation and may also provide for alternative solutions for special constellations in individual cases. They will also consider the special situation of students who have been mobilised.
    3. Facilitated possibilities for the withdrawal of examinations will be provided for.

Due to the very large differences between the study fields, the details of the examination procedure and design – in particular the form of the examinations (e.g. online), dates, exact arrangements for taking account of the more difficult conditions in the spring semester 2020 – will be determined by the faculties. The faculties will inform the students by 30 April 2020 at the latest.

Further details can be found in the guidelines (FR/DE) of the Rectorate of 6 April 2020 for the examination session in June 2020 as well as other performance records to be provided in the spring semester 2020: www.unifr.ch/go/coronavirus.

I wish you happy and relaxing Easter days and send you my best wishes
    Astrid Epiney, Rector
